The Arkansas Sharpeners Soft Arkansas Whetstone is a 6 x 2 x 1 in bench stone cut from natural Arkansas novaculite. Soft Arkansas is the medium grade, used to sharpen and refine an edge after a coarser stone. It leaves a keen, smooth edge on knives and tools.
Natural Arkansas stones are traditionally used with a light honing oil, which floats metal particles off the surface. Hold a steady angle and work the full length of the edge in smooth strokes. The wide, flat surface makes it easy to keep a consistent angle.
A wood storage box protects the stone on the bench or in a drawer. Wipe the stone clean after each use. Follow it with a hard Arkansas stone if you want a finer polish. See every option in our sharpeners.
