A 13-inch flexible long-range VHF antenna for the Garmin Astro 430 handheld. Swapping it in for the standard 5-inch whip raises the stated tracking range to up to 9 miles.
The trade is bulk for distance. In open country — big fields, cut-over, hill country where a dog can put a ridge between you — the extra length is what keeps the signal alive. In thick brush most handlers go back to the short antenna.
