Flame anodizing runs current through titanium in a bath, growing an oxide layer whose thickness decides the color. Nothing is added to the metal, so the blues, purples and golds cannot chip or wear off the way a coating does. The pearlescent blade finish works on the same principle, refracting light into shifting color rather than sitting on the steel as pigment.
M390 is a Bohler powder steel and one of the highest performing stainless alloys in production knives, holding an edge far longer than common steels.
