The Spyderco Grasshopper Red G10 Slipjoint (C138GRDP) is the red version of the Grasshopper, with a 2.3-inch drop point blade and a 5.13-inch open length. The red handle makes it easy to find in a pocket or tackle bag. It uses Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, a Swedish blade steel with fine grain.
Fine-grained steel like 12C27 takes a keen edge and holds it well for its price class. The G10 handle is tough, light, and impervious to moisture. A backspring holds the blade open, with no lock to release.
Carry it loose in a pocket since it has no clip. It works for opening boxes, cutting rope, trimming fishing line, and food prep on a picnic. Keep the joint clean and lightly oiled for smooth action. More slipjoint knives are in our traditional knives.
