The Spyderco Native 5 Blue G-10 (C41GPCBL5) is the cobalt blue version of the Native 5, with a blade of about 2.95 inches in CPM SPY27. SPY27 is a powder steel made by Crucible for Spyderco and usually paired with cobalt blue handles. Like other Native 5 models, it is made in Golden, Colorado. Overall length is about 6.85 inches open.
SPY27 is designed for a good mix of toughness, corrosion resistance, and edge holding. The full flat ground blade has a finger choil and jimping on the spine for control. The blue G-10 handle is contoured, grippy, and unaffected by water. The contoured handle fills the hand, giving more grip than most knives with blades under 3 inches. It weighs little for its size.
A back lock holds the blade open, and the Round Hole allows one-hand opening. The clip can be moved for tip-up or tip-down carry on either side. SPY27 runs are limited, so color and steel combinations like this one come and go. It is a good pick for someone who wants a USA-made knife in a compact size. The back lock design is strong and easy to use with either hand. Clean and oil the pivot occasionally to keep the action smooth. The black S30V Native 5 and other lockbacks are in our lockback knives.
